Pt. Reyes MC Ride, August 19, 2007

We planned this trip about 9:00am and left at 10:00am Saturday, August 19th heading west on I-80.

We stopped at a rest area just before Vallejo. The views were spectacular!

We took 580, crossing the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge into Marin County.

Then south on Hwy 101 south to the Shoreline highway or Hwy 1 just north of Sausalito.

We headed west stopping at Muir Beach for a visit to the shore.

Our next stop was Stinson Beach.

We had lunch at the Stinson Beach Grill. We both had a salad and water.

The air was clear and warm.

The fog hung offshore making for a perfect day of sunshine.

We continued on towards Pt Reyes Station where we fueled up at $3.59 a gallon.

From here we took a 45-minute ride out to the point of the peninsula to visit the lighthouse.

We arrived, parked and had to walk about a third of a mile up about a 30-degree incline to the top of the cliff where we found we had to walk down to the lighthouse.

Down hill was good, but it meant we had to walk back up again. After the visit we climbed the 302 steps back to the top of the cliff. This was equivalent to climbing stairs in a 30-story building, so the sign says. It was a puffer.

Our next stop was at Tony’s Seafood Restaurant in Marshall.

As we pulled up to park, we were getting ready to back into a spot and a Mercedes pulled into it. This didn’t sit well with me and I let the driver know about it. He apologized and offered to move, but I took a different spot. While there we had Merlot, and asked the waitress for the check. She said the guy that took your parking space paid the tab. We thanked him on the way out and told him buying the wine wasn’t necessary. He said he felt bad about the deal and wanted to make it up to us. Two glasses of wine cost $20. I’d sell a parking place every time for that kind of dough!

Leaving Marshall, we continued north on Hwy 1 into Tamales, turning east on Bodega Hwy through Petaluma and on to the Lake Shore Highway, passing Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. We crossed over the bridge on Hwy 37, which was very congested.

We got back on I-80 heading on home arriving at 9:30pm.

We covered 310 miles in an 11-hour day. While we were a bit weary from our hike and a long day in the saddle, but it was a great ride to be recommended. There were more twisties than even a biker would want on hwy 1, and we were fortunate to find such great weather, good food, and free wine.
